Hof is competence area for automative suppliers
Hof is based in the geographic center among the most important final assembly plants of car producers in the south and middle of Germany and the Czech Republic. The core competence fields of logistics and industrial production and the given infrastructure make Hof an ideal location for investment for automotive suppliers. Highways and railroads connect Hof directly with the final assembly plants, supported by powerful regional logistics companies. The given potential in this field has caused the Free State of Bavaria and the area HochFranken to start the project Automotive Suppliers' Park Pole Position with the Institute of Automotive Technology Bavaria at the outskirts of Hof in September 2003.

Also in the next decade the automotive industry will be regarded as a sort of industrial pacemaker in Germany. The growing requirements of the car manufacturers will lead the suppliers to more individual or mutual developments and further to closer cooperation.
Together with Invest in Bavaria the Bavarian ministry of economy, infrastucture, traffic and technology came up with the idea to support these cooperations , specially with small and medium sized companies. It was necessary to create a unique automotive competence center for the medium-sized automotive suppliers' industry in HochFranken.
The surplus and actual significance is contributed by the institute of automotive technology. Industrial park and institute from a unit.
At the Institute of Automotive Technology Bavaria, the core of the industrialpark, the companies are provided with test facilities. That and the connection to the leading Bavarian research institutes and universities for automotive technology do not only make it easier to pursue individual research and development work, also mutual R&D work is progressed by creating cooperations. Thus, a basis is created where meduim-sized suppliers can improve technical progress in automotive industry themselves.
