The county town Hof is a major center in the province of Upper Frankonia in the north of the Free State of Bavaria and it is part of the area HochFranken within the scope of a big regional marketing campaign.

A large goods station is available, too. A new container terminal at the goods station guarantees the daily direct connection to the ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg.
