Hauptbahnhof – Hof Main Station

Hauptbahnhof

To replace the first station in Hof, which had become too small, a new through station was erected in 1880 with splendid waiting-rooms. As Hof lies on the border between Bavaria and Saxony, the station had a Bavarian section and a Saxon section. The “Königssaal” (royal hall), which can still be viewed, served for meetings between representatives of the two states. Today it is part of the station restaurant and can be used for functions.

The whole station forecourt is a wide green space. A sculpture representing the opening of the East German border is there because Hof’s station was the first railway station in the West for those refugees who were permitted to leave East Germany via former Czechoslovakia in 1989.
