Hof’s “Waerschtlamo” – the street sausage vendors
![]() |
People in Hof cannot even agree about how to write the dialect word for the men who sell sausages in the streets: is it "Wärschtlamo" or "Wärschdlamou" or "Wärschtlamoh" ?
There is however complete agreement in the judgement of the delicacies ("Wiener"," Knacker", "Weißwurst" and "Bauernwurst") which are on sale from those men who belong to an occupation that can only be found in Hof. Many a visitor would like to see one of the “sausage men” with their shining copper pots heated by a little charcoal fire and their large baskets with fresh rolls located in his or her home-town, too. These “Wärschtlamänner” are just as much part of Hof’s townscape as the town hall, St Michael’s or the Old Station.

In honour of this old profession, a monument by Alfred Pflügner was erected at Sonnenplatz, opposite St Mary’s Church.
