The Goldener Schlappen (“golden clog“) is the highest award given by the Privilegierte Scheiben-Schützengesellschaft to people who have earned special merits for their services to the community, to business or to the town of Hof.
The Goldener Schlappen is a miniature clog made of pure gold and decorated with a jewel. This award, specially made by a local goldsmith, is valuable as it is a unique example of craftsmanship and not just a mass-produced article.
The award has been presented to people like the former Bavarian Minister President Max Streibel, the ex-chairman of the Textilgruppe, Ernst Häcker, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Senator Emil Preissinger.
The award ceremony takes place at the reception for the Schlappentag marksmen at Hof’s town hall. Until then the name of the recipient remains a secret.
In the year 2006 Ernst Schneider, the chairman of the guild of local craftsmen, was presented with the Goldener Schlappen award in recognition of his services for Hof’s Schlappentag.
